IT’S A GIRL! Abu Camp, best known as one of the first elephant back riding safari lodges, deep in the Okavango Delta, has had a new arrival. Shireni, one of the Camp’s leading matriach’s, gave birth to her third living calf at ten in the evening on 17 December 2011. Measuring approximately 90cm at the shoulder and weighing about 110kg, the new-born stood on her own wobbling feet within 20 minutes of being born. The elephant handlers have named her Warona, the SeTswana name meaning ‘For Us’. Don’t you just want to cuddle that little darling?
