The Cliff, Lake Nakuru, Kenya

The Cliff; part safari lodge, part tented camp, with a hint of boutique hotel, melds the best of design and comfort in considered understatement. Perched high on the rock face overlooking Lake Nakuru, one of the Great Rift Valley’s soda lakes, The Cliff is a soothing stopover between big game safari to the north and south.

There’s a seamless view from bed to blue water and this great body of water is a veritable algae soup of nutrients, famed for its vast numbers of pink flamingoes, which come and go at whim. One moment they are there and the next they are gone!

I’m off to visit The Cliff quite soon and I really hope the flamingoes have stuck around when I get there.  Why am I going? Well the owner of this and a number of other safari lodges in Kenya; Entim Mara, Lerai Camp, Ilkeliani and Hot Air Ballooning Safaris,  has asked me to write and update their websites.  And that’s why I’m a Safari Travel Writer!

Lake Nakuru’s wooded shores are home to both black and white rhino (one of few places where they both occur), buffalo, leopard, lion, giraffe and antelope and flamboyant colobus monkeys. With Kenya’s recent declaration of the death sentence for poachers, Kenya’s animals have never been better protected.
