Belmond Eagle Island Lodge – super luxury; honeymoon/safari/activities……
Judging by the photos of the new, beautiful and eco-friendly Belmond Eagle Island Lodge, I think it’s going to be what they claim, “the most restful and luxurious lodge in the Okavango Delta.”
Belmond Eagle Island Lodge is what’s known as a water lodge. That means it is so close to the flood waters of the Okavango Delta that water flows not just around the lodge, but right underneath your enormous tented bedroom. Even in drought, there’s water in front of the lodge.
During the $7 million rebuild from January to November 2015, a lone male elephant ensured he made is presence felt by wandering through camp on a regular basis and knocking off solar panels. Eagle Island Lodge’s green credentials are impressive and even the air-conditioning runs off solar.
Eagle Island Lodge is usually the third and final lodge in a Botswana Belmond Safari, after having visited Khwai River Lodge and Savute Elephant Camp. I’ve been to all three quite a long time ago (not the new version of Eagle Island) and can attest to the exceptional safari sightings you are in for should you choose a Belmond Safari Lodge. There’s no-one persuading me to say these things; not even influenced by the fine wine and copious supper snacks at the re-aunch (which occurred at another and favourite Belmond property, the Belmond Mount Nelson Hotel, Cape Town)!
I will tell you more once I’ve revisited but for now let the photos tell the story……
