Dereck and Beverly Joubert ‘Soul of the Elephant’ film

Don’t you just want to be them – Dereck and Beverly Joubert, real-life African eco-warrior, film-makers, conservationists and flipping good looking to boot? I do! I want my own hairy, intellectual, game saviour dude so I can head off into the wilderness forever!

These two incredible humans are instrumental in raising awareness of the plight of African animals, especially rhino, lions and elephants, who really are in trouble from other inhumane humans.  This time, with a film called ‘Soul of the Elephant’.

At the recent New York Wild Film Festival, Soul of the Elephant won ‘Best Wildlife Film.’

Dereck & Beverly have a lot of fans in the USA including Robert Redford, who during a Q&A session with the Jouberts after the screening at the recent Sundance Film Festival, said “It’s an amazing romance, a love affair between the two of you. It’s a love affair between you and the elephants as well, buts its also a love affair between you, the elephants and the audience. The story is interwoven around these really strong relationships. Amazing.”

I know I’m not a world changer and I’m so grateful for people like Dereck & Beverly who are. If you want to tread in their footsteps, such as the Selinda Reserve in northern Botswana where ‘Soul of the Elephant’ was filmed, you can. Their company Great Plains Conservation have three very different camps in Selinda where you can be witness to some of the greatest concentrations of elephant in Africa, as well as wild dogs, lion, leopard, buffalo and a whole host of other wildlife. Look on Great Plains for  more information on Selinda Explorers Camp, Selinda Camp, and Zarafa Camp & Zarafa Dhow Suites.
