I have been invited to Shenton Safaris camps in the wild South Luangwa Valley of Zambia and these pics make me want to pack my bag right now! This is real wild Africa, much more earthy and spontaneous than a safari in South Africa with lots of animal thrills to be expected from the numerous hides set up to enable close-up animal watching. Pretty exciting stuff. Here are some pics of Kaingo Camp….and some guest comments, including one from Frans Lanting the extraordinary photographer. They also have another camp called Mwamba and I will feedback on this once I have been.
One of the wonderful features of Derek Shenton’s camps is the network of blinds he sets up each year to allow close-up views of hippos, elephants, and the other wildlife. From his hippo hide, hidden in a corner of the Luangwa River you are close enough to feel as if you are part of the pod – a truly unique perspective that is both a tribute to Derek’s ingenuity and to his superb knowledge of the Luangwa Valley Frans Lanting – National Geographic
“We have spent the most glorious week, split between Kaingo and Mwamba. Your people have been the most attentive, kind and obliging always with sincere smiles and greetings. Meyam our guide, has an inexhaustible knowledge and a great sense of humor, we could not have hoped for better. The camps are brilliant and just perfect for photographers. Altogether a fantastic, memorable experience.” Adrian & Hilary Miles.
“What a perfect introduction to Africa! Our first ever safari and now already I understand the fascination. Having the 2 camps is an ideal contrast, they are both a fine combination of luxury and simplicity. None of this would be of importance if the staff had not been so attentive, pleasant & knowledgeable”.

“Thank you for a truly unforgettable wildlife experience, fabulous hospitality, wonderful guides and great company. A once in a lifetime witness to the unfolding drama of the hunt, with 20 lions, a family of elephants, one unlucky impala, and a very worried baboon.”
